Climatic, Meteorological, Hydrologic, Seismic, and Coastal / Ocean Data

Charles B. Pyke, Ph.D., President, CEO, and Principal Scientist of  Environmental Science & Energy, Inc., offers climatic, meteorological, hydrologic, seismic, coastal, ocean, environmental, and other scientific data of all types, at a reasonable cost, from one of the densest and most extensive data bases available.  This data base archives everything from weather observations and earthquake information, to runoff information and tides, going back to 1948 and extending up to date to the present day, in either English or metric units. The data base includes the United States, Canada, and elsewhere in the world.   Included are, but are not limited to:

  • Climatic / meteorological / weather data:

    • Daily maximum and minimum temperatures.

    • Daily and hourly precipitation totals.

    • METAR, RAWS, and other collections of hourly and sub-hourly weather observations from a vast network of airports, downtown stations, universities, USFS and USGS gauges, and other sources, including:

      • Time, to the minute.

      • Wind direction, speed, and peak gusts.

      • Horizontal visibility, obstructions to vision (fog, etc.), and precipitation (type and intensity).

      • Observations of lightning and thunder.

      • Cloud cover and height of cloud decks above ground.

      • Air temperature.

      • Dew point and relative humidity.

      • Barometric pressure (sea level pressure and altimeter setting).

      • Remarks made by the weather observer, including beginning and ending of precipitation.

    • Daily air quality data in selected cities and other locations worldwide.

    • Snow depths and snow water content.

    • Lightning data, instrumental detection and human reports.

    • Glacier and Antarctic ice data, mostly from reports.

    • Monthly average temperatures and total precipitation.

    • Long-term climatic data, including Greenland and Antarctic ice core data.

    • Other meteorological and climatic data of many types.

    • Frequency analysis of climatic and meteorological data.

  • Hydrologic / flood data:

    • River gauge heights, from which can be deduced stream flow rates.

    • Reservoir gauge heights, from which can be deduced reservoir volume.

    • River ice data, including ice jams, mostly from reports of occurrences.

    • Water quality and water chemistry data at many locations.

    • Avalanche data, mostly reports of occurrences.

    • Other hydrologic data.

    • Flood frequency analysis.

    • Reservoir level frequency analysis.

  • Earthquake / seismic / landslide / avalanche data:  [including data from the January 2010 Haiti earthquake]

    • Magnitudes (Richter Scale) and epicenters of historical earthquakes.

    • Shaking intensities (Mercalli Scale) at specific locations.

    • Other earthquake and seismic data.

    • Data on landslides, mostly from reports of occurrences.

    • Data on ground liquefaction, slope failures, and subsidence, mostly from reports of occurrences.

    • Geologic data used in petroleum exploration and extraction.

    • Soil conditions, including soil in burn areas, mostly from reports.

    • Other geologic and seismic data.

    • Earthquake frequency analysis.

  • Coastal and ocean data:

    • Daily tidal data from thousands of gauges worldwide, including tidal heights and times.

    • Daily wave height data from a great many ocean buoys and coastal wave gauges worldwide.

    • Storm surge data at numerous sites worldwide.

    • Beach erosion data from measurements of sand surface heights and from reports.

    • Tsunami data at selected sites worldwide.

    • Coastal seawater quality and chemistry at selected locations.

    • Other coastal and oceanic data.

    • Wave height frequency analysis.
